Welcome!

The ROSELAND VIC (Village Interdependent Collaborative) partners with neighborhood organizations and Chicagoland businesses to give people aged 55+ a host of opportunities to combat isolation, age in place, and participate in fulfilling activities with other seniors. We remind you to still pick up your boxed lunches ($2 suggested donation) from the Roseland Senior Satellite Center located at 10426 S. Michigan Avenue (60628) weekdays as early as 10:30 a.m.  If you'd like to participate in our meetings and get involved more in the Pullman/Roseland community, call our conference line (425-436-6200, code 390905) on the 3rd Wednesday of each month and make sure you let your voice be heard.

Published with assistance from BePublished.org in May 2021, BOOMING CHICAGOANS by Roseland VIC is the debut literary release of seasoned citizens active in the Pullman/Roseland area.

A small collection of original works to showcase their talents and interests, BOOMING CHICAGOANS is the first compilation project completed by members of the Roseland Village Interdependent Collaborative (VIC) of Chicago, Illinois.

As a direct response to the social isolation many in the Silent & Baby Boomer generations felt during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Roseland VIC’s active seniors gathered virtually and decided to pool their creative talents to inspire others to remain engaged and active in any way they can.

"We love to cook, dance, sing, play bingo, write, paint . . . do a lot of things. We’re not just sitting around complaining about body aches,” confesses the Roseland VIC’s president, 92-year-old Delores Williams.

“We hope this book will inspire other seasoned people to celebrate the talents God blessed them with and live the life they love while they still can,” added the vice-president, Felicia Hurst (whose husband Donald Pridgeon is a Baby Boomer).

Supported by the staff at the Roseland Senior Satellite Center, Roseland VIC specifically designed BOOMING CHICAGOANS to allow readers to witness the varying skills 21st Century senior citizens still employ and work to pass on to their peers and loved ones.

Available as an ebook, BOOMING CHICAGOANS by Roseland VIC may also be purchased as an autographed paperback from the contributor of choice.

Email [email protected] to get a free copy of the ebook produced from our February Storytelling Workshop with Roseland VIC, Northlight Theatre and CJE SeniorLife.

STAYING ENGAGED VIRTUALLY!!
Thanks to partnerships formed in August 2020, RVIC members may receive great info and services from healthcare organizations including White Crane Wellness Center. Our Villagers may also take part in any virtual programs offered by CJE SeniorLife online by visiting the Council for Jewish Elderly's site by clicking on the image below. In September 2020, Roseland area seniors involved in the Roseland VIC officially formed partnerships with Blue Cross Blue Shield, and are supported by the Blue Door Neighborhood Centers in Pullman & Morgan Park, where they may participate in various activities in person while wearing a mask and social distancing.  In January 2021, JenCare became a RVIC partner to further assist us with being there for you in all the ways you and you loved ones need. They also served as a sponsor of the Roseland Senior Satellite Center's 10th Anniversary Celebration in 2022.
KEEPING WARM ALL WINTER LONG

Thirty percent of senior households are barely able to pay their monthly bills, with no money left over.  Over 25 million Americans aged 60+ are living at or below the federal poverty level. These older adults struggle with rising housing and health care bills, inadequate nutrition, lack of access to transportation, diminished savings, and job loss.

Are you 55 years of age or older? Do you need a coat for the autumn and winter but can't afford to buy a new one? Not able to get to a thrift store or a giveaway to get you a gently-used coat to stay warm this season? Email One Warm Coat or visit a center near you after calling the center of your choice today.

REMAIN ACTIVE IN YOUR COMMUNITY!!
Thanks to our partnerships forged in October 2020 with The Artist Revue, Be Published and PeopleWarmers allow us to be entertained, release our own creations worldwide, and spread the word about our great events. We also celebrate our partnership to get you free painted portraits via Artist John Bakker's Roseland Portrait Project These -- as well as the partnerships formed in November 2020 with Calumet BakeryGood Life Cafe and SGA Youth & Family Services -- position us to remain committed to engaging seniors in ways that nurture their bodies and feed their souls. Since then, Calumet Bakery has supported each of our major events with donated baked goods, and in April 2021, we were able to award them a trophy to show our appreciation. Also in 2021, we built new relationships with Culver's Pullman and 7-Eleven Beverly. Because of their great donations along with those of Blue Door Pullman & Blue Door Morgan Park, our seniors had another great year end as they celebrated the Christmas & Kwanzaa holidays. And, thanks to the supportive donations from Potbelly Pullman, Humana, Divine Consulting LLC of Mississippi, Media Room 360, The Conglomerate, Alderman Anthony Beale's OfficeCatholic Charities, Chicago Department of Family & Support Services, and Centers for New Horizons, the 2022 Roseland Royal Ball was made a more grand affair!
